Mai 2021 marque le 50ème anniversaire de la sortie britannique de The Man Who Sold The World, le premier album de David Bowie paru dans les années 1970. Cet album inaugure la collaboration avec le guitariste Mick Ronson, qui allait se poursuivre avec les incontournables Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust et Aladdin Sane. Il signale également le début d’une décennie d’enregistrements hors du commun jusqu’à Scary Monsters, en 1980.

Re-baptisée Metrobolist, le premier titre envisagé pour l’album, la réédition de The Man Who Sold The World remasterisée par son producteur original Tony Visconti est parue en 2020. Nommé d’après le titre d’ouverture de l’album, inspiré par le nom d’une peinture de George Underwood, un ami de David Bowie, le coffret-2CDs The Width Of A Circle est un complément à Metrobolist.
Ses 21 titres comprennent des singles hors-album, une émission BBC In Concert, la bande-son d’une pièce télévisée et des remixes additionnels de Tony Visconti complétant les enregistrements de l’année 1970 et révélant les premiers pas vers Hunky Dory.

Un picture disc de l’album The Man Who Sold The World illustré par la photo noir et blanc de la réédition de 1972 sera également disponible le 28 mai - Warner

Originally recorded and rejected as the follow up single to "Space Oddity" This mono mix was finally release on the Sound & Vision box set in 1989.
